Elijah M. Brown, Ph.D. is the General Secretary of the North American Baptist Fellowship (NABF). The NABF is one of the six regions of the Baptist World Alliance, and is a network of more than 30 partners representing approximately 20 million individuals and 80,000 Baptist churches in Canada and the United States. Dr. Brown is also the Executive Vice President of the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, an organization dedicated to empowering a global movement to advance religious freedom as a universal right through advocacy, capacity building and technology. Dr. Brown has written or been quoted in numerous articles, is a frequent speaker, and has just recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti where he visited underground believers and helped train 100 government leaders and 100 church leaders in Ethiopia. Dr. Brown received his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh with a dissertation that focused on the role of the church in the development of South Sudan’s peace process. He previously served as an Associate Professor of Religion at East Texas Baptist University where he was also a Faculty-in-Residence. Dr. Brown has conducted research in refugee and displacement camps in Ethiopia, Iraq, Kenya, Lebanon, Nigeria, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. Dr. Brown resides in Falls Church, Virginia, with his wife Amy and their three children.
Elijah will be bringing greetings on behalf of the NABF and the BWA on Thursday evening. He will also be leading two seminars.
